1950's House Wife

Some day I think "Man, I wish I was like a 1950's housewife!" Ok, so I know it wasnt all ~*~ Glitter & Rainbows~*~ back then and us women have a much better life now then we did in the 50's.. Here are just some things I wish I was better at. My thoughts are in bold.

The Good Wife’s Guide.

Extract from Housekeeping Monthly, 1955.
  1. Have dinner ready. Plan ahead, even the night before to have a delicious meal ready, on time for his return. This is a way of letting him know that you have been thinking about him and are concerned about his needs. Most men are hungry when they come home and the prospect of a good meal (especially his favourite dish) is part of the warm welcome needed. This is one of the biggest things I wish I had in common with the 1950's house wife. I am horrible at having dinner planned and cooked by a normal hour of the night. I can try hard and do it a couple days a week, but usually more often then not I throw something together and usually after 6:30 or 7 pm.

  2.  Prepare yourself. Take 15 minutes to rest so you’ll be refreshed when he arrives. Touch up your make-up, put a ribbon in your hair and be fresh-looking. He has just been with a lot of work-weary people. I seriously have no issues with this one either. I'd love to have myself done up and pretty every single day, even if it was just for my husband. But really it would make me feel better too. Though I have to LOL at taking 15 minutes to rest, a mom doesnt get 15 minutes to rest. :)
  3.    Listen to him. You may have a dozen important things to tell him, but the moment of his arrival is not the time. Let him talk first – remember his topics of conversation are more important that yours.
Make the evening his. Never complain if he comes home late or goes out to dinner, or other places of entertainment without you. Instead, try to understand his world of strain and pressure and his very real need to be at home and relax. Well, I do listen to everything he has to say and it is usually the biggest topic of the night. So again, no probably with that part. No problem if he gets home late, long as he was at work.... I dont much like the part about him going out without me, but if he at least fills me in that he is going, Ill deal with it. Everyone needs a break sometimes. (Specially the SAHM!)
  4.  Don’t complain if he’s late home for dinner or even if he stays out all night. Count this as minor compared to what he might have gone through that day. I dont complain to much when he goes to friends houses an stay out all night long. whatever...
  5. Arrange his pillow and offer to take off his shoes. Speak in a low, soothing and pleasant voice.
Don’t ask him questions about his actions or question his judgment or integrity. Remember he is the master of the house and as such will always excercise his will with fairness and truthfulness. You have no right to question him. Master of the house? HAHAHAHA F that :) That is for sure one of the best changes in a world today. Most house holds share the "master" title between wife an husband. Though I have no probelm with arranging his pillows and maybe even taking his shoes off.. And if its something I question then I have every right to question him...
  6. A good wife always knows her place.  I do know my place and that is BESIDE my husband, not behind him..
So basically the biggest quality of a 1950's wife that I had is the cooking and house keeping (not mentioned above, but you know that they kept the house sparkling) Maybe Ill be like a bottle of wine. Maybe Ill get better at things as I age. Maybe someday Ill learn to plan meals out, stick to that plan and cook dinner every night and maybe someday Ill learn to keep my house cleaner, make my kids happier and husband happier.. Someday :)

A big fight & separation

I have been having major issues with my internet lately. Every single time I would try to upload a single photo or video, my connection would drop. EVERY TIME! I knew not what was wrong. I began to think maybe my router was crapping out on me because it was a cheaper one and is pushing 2 years old. I moved both the router and the wireless internet modem/tower thing, hoping that would make a difference. No, it didnt. Mind you, the two of them have been sitting side by side for the last 8 months and only have been recently acting up the last 2 weeks (or so).

I remembered my SIL saying that the internet company told my brother that the tower and router shouldnt be placed to close together. I instantly jumped up, separated the two and Viola! I have uploaded two videos to youtube with no issues at all!!!

So my conclusion is that my tower/modem and the router must have had a big fight and just needed to be separated. Sadly, I do not see the two of them getting back together any time soon. This 8 month relationship is over. Unless of course, they can manage a long distance, never coming in actual contact type relationship. :D

Birthday Pictures

I feel like a horrible mom. There are some moms who have professional pictures taken of their children at several stages of life; newborn, 3 months, 6 months, 9 months, 1 year, 18 months,  2 years, etc. You get the point. I am not one of those moms, though I wish I was. The thing is, professional/studio photos cost soooo much and now having more then one child, its like impossible.

So for Ellie we had newborn, 3 months and 6 months done and I think the last ones were done at 2 yrs and 5 months. (not including the ones we had done last summer with the cousins from both sides of the family) That is 3 sessions more then we had done for Garrett :( He only had like 3 month photos taken (aside again from the cousins ones)

I had wanted to get theirs done a couple of weeks ago for Ellie's 3rd b-day and Garrett being 1.5 yrs old.. It didnt happen because the Walmart we went to didnt have a photo studio... I decided to try and take some of my own tonight.. A) I hate my crappy point and shoot camera. Its so old! B) Ellie doesnt follow directions from me at all! C) Garrett doesnt hold still for 2 seconds! Nonetheless**, these are the ones I got..

Alright, I am having one heck of a time with my internet connection. Anytime I try to upload photos either to Blogspot or even to photobucket, my connection drops. Making it nearly impossible to upload pictures.  I've only got 1 pictures to upload, so that will have to do for now. Ill post more later when and if I get them to upload.

Little Miss Ellie holding a #3 that I cut out with the Cricut Cutter (George and Basic Shapes, for those who  are interested) This was also by far the best picture that I was able to get.

So before my connection drops again, Im going to publish this post. Hopefully later Ill be able to get more pictures added!

Have a great week!

**Nonetheless- What kind of word is that?? It is 3 words crammed together and made into one. I was sure my spell check was going to pop up with suggestions for it, but I guess it really is a word. Weird..

Margarita Flavored Water

Yesterday while grocery shopping at Fry's I came across a little displace of new Crystal Light flavors. They are Majito, Margarita and Appletini.
After little thought, I grabbed the Margarita flavor. I have been secretly marking off the days of the calender till this baby pops out and I can enjoy a nice blended Margarita. (Shhh. Please keep my secret)

I joked with my SIL about how Im going to want to salt the rim of my water. I didnt expect it to actually taste like a Margarita. You know how most imitation flavors taste NOTHING like the actual thing.

So today I reached for a pitcher from the cabinet and started filling it with water. I poured in the flavor mix and it instantly turned that bright green color that is a Margarita. I mixed it up and set it aside. I was hesitant to try it because I didnt want to be disappointed by a nasty drink and that I spent extra money on something that will just sit in my pantry.

Finally I grabbed a glass, put some ice in it and pour it full.. I must say, I am pleasantly surprised by the flavor. It does actually resemble a Margarita (minus the Tequila). It is not to sweet and not to tart. Even Logan says it tastes very much like a Margarita. He even mentioned the bottle of Tequila in the freezer and adding it to his.(Of course he didnt)

Here I am now, sipping my newly found Margarita water ABSOLUTELY fighting the urge to salt the rim of my big plastic cup. I have the Margarita salt in the pantry and its calling my name. It's bad enough that I've already had to go through the whole craving salt during this pregnancy but now Im wanting it again. Salt is the devil during pregnancy. What am I to do?? lol Stop drinking my "Mocktail", salt the rim or fight the urge? Im pretty sure at some point I am going to have to give in and at least try the salt and see what it taste like with the Margarita water. I may be wishing I never bought the mix! :D

For now though I am off to find a snack and hopefully something to keep my mind of that dang salt!!

Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend and to those laughing at me now while sipping on their REAL margaritas, I LOATH YOU!!! Take care :)

Heartburn Hell

What the hell! My chest feels like it is on fire.. Like I have said through both of my previous pregnancies, "This damn kid better have a head full of hair!!!" Yeah, I know.. Its just an old wife's tale that if you have heartburn that means your baby will have hair... However, I like saying it and so far, its been true for me. Im not sure what I would do with a bald baby!! HaHaHa!!!

Newborn Ellie

Newborn Garrett

As bad as the heartburn is, Im so lazy and stubborn that I do not get up to take tums. Some times I will, but most of the time it will pass (eventually) I notice it the most usually when I either have to lean over to do something, like dress a kid, change a diaper, etc.

Man, I can also tell that I am in my 3 month stretch. I get so tired so fast! Doing the littlest of things wares me out so fast!! I do not have the energy to get out of bed anymore!!! I also have got the mommy waddle down pat once again. lol Its not a horrible side to side sway but its defiantly there. Sleeping comfortably is mission impossible! Most nights I wake up at some point with at least one arm dead asleep from laying on that side of my body.  And now the horrid charley horses have started. Thank God I havent got ones that hurt so bad that I have to jump out of bed to get relief. I can usually catch them right when they start. Though Im sure in the next 3 months, I wont be so lucky.

This little guy is also quite the mover now.  The movements had started on the left side of my belly but he must have moved because now the kung fu jabs are on the right side. Still not much higher then my belly button, but thats ok with me. Stay low little man. Ribs are off limits ;)

I have to get the GD/glucose test done soon. Unlike a lot of other mothers-to-be, I dont mind the orange soda drink that we have to drink. It just seemed like a very sugared orange soda. Its the waiting 1 hour that sucks!! My OB nurse said I could check to see if the little clinic here in our "village" would preform the test, however, NO ONE there should be allowed to draw blood!! So I probably will make the 1.5 (roughly) hour drive sometime next week to get it done by someone who knows what they are doing.. lol Maybe Ellie & I will go next week when Logan is off work and we will make it a girls day. (He can keep Garrett!)

Well tomorrow is Friday! Yeey!! Also grocery shopping day. I have yet to make a shopping list and still do not look forward to doing so. But its part of life, we need food to live and being as all Ellie wants to do is eat lately, I must do the shopping. Another awesome thing about tomorrow, I am stuck with both kids! Eeek! So while you are lounging around and enjoying for Friday, feel some pitty for me as Im shopping with 2 screaming kids! Thank you!

My post about happiness, money, more

I want to know something.... Why cant I be happy all the time like some of the writers of the blogs I read. They always seem so happy, cheerful and full of life. Every post is happy stuff. Is it just that they dont post about the sad, unhappy, moody, cranky stuff?? That would explain why they dont post every day, lol.

But seriously now, why cant I be more happy? There is so many things that I am happy for and about in my life but I just have a heck of a time showing happiness..

After this baby is born, I seriously need some happy pills! Hopefully someone will give me some and they help. I think things will be so much better around our home if I felt more happy about my life, my self, in general everything.

I guess I can go ahead and touch on the money topic while Im here, mark another one off the to do list.  I hate living paycheck to paycheck. We moved back to Arizona because the money was supposed to be better. Rent is cheaper and we were supposed to be able to save so much money, but we havent yet saved anything.. I just do not understand where it goes!!! I spend so much on groceries every 2 weeks (and Basha's trips in between there) but then it seems like the food is gone in no time and Im rushing back to the store for something, here and there.

I made a break down list for each month, with each payday and what is due when and which payday ifs going to get payed out of. Hopefully this will help us be able to save some how! I wish I could figure out how to save money grocery shopping but buying enough stuff to last longer then 2 weeks. I know, there is couponing, I just cant figure it out.. They should hold coupon classes at the college.. Lol for no credit of course, just a things to know kind of class. When I look at coupons or watch that Extreme Couponers show on TV, all I think aboutis "I do not buy any of that stuff."

.............. Nothing makes me madder then when I am almost done with a post and some how hit the back button or a button that makes the page go back and my post wasnt completely saved.. Totally a crap shoot.. lol and the n I have no desire to retype what I  had previously typed up.

Hope everyone has a great Thursday! One day closer to the weekend and for some of us, its payday!

Painting the Bathrooms

So I got the painting in the bathrooms done! I like how they turned out. First is Logan's bathroom.

Before
 During

 All done!
These trucks are Garrett's and they didnt last long there. lol

I am VERY pleased with how it came out. Considering that was my first time painting a stripe of any kind. It does have a crooked place and Logan was sure to point it out. I didnt quite get the happy reaction from him that I was hoping for. However, he did reply just the way I knew he would. He told me it looked good but I should have used a tape measurer. Meaning the lines are crooked. I had text him the night I did it asking where the tape measurer was. He called to tell me and I said it was ok. I was going to use a sewing tape measurer. So the next morning when he said I should have used the tape measurer, I said I did. He said, yeah but not a real one. What is the difference? The sewing one is broke down into inches, just like a "real" tape measurer. The black stripe is actually pretty dang straight! Its the yellow that is crooked in spots. Its between 16 & 17 inches. Only he would be able to notice the places its off an inch or 1/2 and inch... I told him I knew he would say something about it being messed up, and just walked out of the room. Why cant he just say "Wow babe, that looks awesome. You did a great job." and leave it at that? Has to point out the flaws. Flaws that cannot be fixed!! Anyways, I am happy with how it turned out! :)

Now here is my bathroom. Less complicated! Some reason I cannot find the before pictures. Oh well, it was a simple white bathroom. Now its a simple blue bathroom.

Its a very calm blue. I really like it.. I plan to do a beach theme in there. My mom had her bathroom done like that years ago (identical bathroom too) I want to get a fish net to put on the wall beside the toilet and shells, sand dollars, fish to decorate it with. Maybe some kind of beach/relaxing quote to put on the wall.

I havent decided yet if I want to use the same blue for the boys' room or not. I do want to use this wall boarder in the room though.
It goes well with the whole moose/bear/log cabin/lodge theme. I also have these wallies that can be placed where ever.

The boy room will be the next to be tackled. Ellie's room will just take so much more work! Though she is dieing for my to paint her room so we can put the Princess wall stickers up. Wasnt planning on doing Princess in her room, but whatever. She will pull them off before to long, so I guess it wont matter.

Thank you for stopping by tonight. Hope everyone had a nice Hump day and that Thursday is great too! The weekend is almost here again!!

The Big 3!

Ellie's 3rd birthday was on the 2nd. I simply cannot believe she is 3 years old now. I joke and say 3 going on 13. She has the attitude on a 13 year old and it scares me. We decided not to have a big party for her. Im horrible at throwing parties and right now she really doesnt have friends. So instead we took to Prescott ,went out to eat and took her to the movies. That was her second movie theater experience and she did great. She was so excited to go and kept saying "Going to watch mobie on the big T.D. and eat oncorn." lol Love how they come up with their own words at this age.  We went and watched Cars 2. We got good seat and she did really well. She would move from sitting in the theater seat, to standing, to sitting on the floor and repeat. She even ended up in my lap at one point and almost asleep.

We also went out and saw Aunt Chelsea, Uncle Clint, Austin and Cameron and the kids got to play for a while. We left Garrett with them while we took Ellie to the movies. Ellie got great "Birthday prizes" from them. She got a little make up compact thing. It had lip gloss and eye shadows in it. She was so excited about it. Needless to say its all gone now though.Oh and she also kept calling it her "hair cut" instead of make up. No clue! They also got her a play-doh set that makes cakes. We have played with it one time and she loves it. Play-doh drys out to fast.

That night we stayed at Logan's parents house. The next morning Ellie got spoiled by Nana Shelly & Papa Terry. She got lots of cute clothes, a new Chore Chart, Dora Mermaid, Barbie Mermaid, a Ballerina Barbie, Disney Princess wallie stickers, and a Crayola magic markers thing. She loves everything. She keeps begging me to A) Put the Princess stickers on the wall, but I tell her we have to paint first. B) Play with the markers, but she got in trouble for peeing on the floor, so I took them away. C) Play with the play-doh, but I tell her it needs to rest, because its getting dried out to fast. lol

So we start this new adventure into a Three Year Old's life and Im pretty sure Im doomed and in for it big time!! Hahaha!!

I love you Elisabeth Quinn-Maxine! You will always be my baby girl.
